Puglia for Wine Lovers

by Voomago

3 Days Wine Lovers Itinerary

Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or just starting your journey, exploring Puglia’s vibrant wine scene is a must. This region offers a unique blend of tradition and innovation, with fertile plains perfect for cultivating Primitivo grapes, often grown within the protective walls of historic masserias (fortified farms). From the picturesque coastal towns along the Ionian Sea to the rolling hills of the Murge inland, you’ll find extensive vineyards and a multitude of wineries, each offering a taste of Puglia’s rich viticultural heritage.

Day 1 - Manduria

  • Consider staying in Manduria as your base. Look up b&b Sine Tempore and mention Antimo’s name to the owner Loredana. This is Antimo’s hometown so his names carries a lot of respect.

  • If you happen to be there on a Tuesday, make sure you visit the Mercato (farmers market and more).

  • The star of your wine tastings in this area will be Primitivo di Manduria, which is produced in two versions, Primitivo di Manduria DOC, full-bodied red wine with a certain intensity and hints of spiced and red fruits, and Primitivo di Manduria Dolce Naturale DOCG, produced only in the most climatically stable years. Make sure you taste a Madrigale.
